Net book report

Mum has had the Asus machine for several weeks now and is not as happy as when she was first using it. Nobody who has used the machine thinks the tiny scroll pad is anything better than diabolical and everyone despises it.

Her wireless broadband is constantly impossible to connect or dropping out and last night she was totally locked out of her email accounts along with being unable to access her account via the ISP site online. She can only barely access her broadband from indoors and is doubly annoyed to see the broadband cables going in down the street as she struggles with the wireless knowing she has a contract her ISP is unable to support but will insist she keep for the full time.

She went and bought an Epson multi role printer. The drivers had to be given to her on a stick memory because (of course) in their infinite wisdom and need to be smaller at all costs netbooks dont have cd or dvd drives. They were unable to get the printer to work and the driver seems to be the wrong one, only one being taken from the disk. They contacted Epson who happily emailed another driver. It was supposed to be another driver but actually is is the one they already had and didnt work.

Mum made the mistake of buying the machine from some distance away but cannot get back there. I think she just wants her money back or a different machine and I suspect she will have as much trouble with it. All things being even and a pattern being created now. The Asus netbook is looking like a lemon for Mum although I suspect that the whole computing thing is a bit of a scam and these things happen because companies are not honest about their products and the limitations of new technology to be clean of bugs!

My own problems have been similarly frustrating. A second hand DVD movie came with its own technology and after (Activision DVD viewer No2} My usual PowerDVD software had ceased working as had my little 300k webcam. To say I am getting pissed off with Microsoft is an understatement. It has to be their immense blocks of updates that are slowly killing off all my drivers and software. I had to buy a DVD package so I could watch the rest of the DVD’s. PowerDVD didn’t even recognize the DVDs in the drive.

Trying to reload drivers for the webcam plus the Activision software froze the computer and killed off the drivers for the television tuners. Reloaded the drivers for that several times. Uninstalled the camera and the activision software and reloaded the television software again but nothing.

Opened the case and removed the television tuner card from within. Uninstalled the television software and drivers. Rebooted the machine.  Ran Uniblue Registry Booster and cleaned the registry as well as defragging it. Restarted the computer. Turned the machine off, put the tuner card back in the case. Restarted the machine. Reloaded the software which started to work. Reprogrammed the television digital, analog, digital radio, FM radio! All in all six hours of work.

That was overdoing it and I have been ill ever since although that day I was helplessly ill and the rest of the time since I just feel like crap when I try to do anything…like this!

The webcam was never going to work so I have again dug into my pension and ordered a new one from Megabuy.

The house stinks of Fish Compound! I saw several bottles of stuff on special at the supermarket. The one I read said Seaweed Compound for fertilizing plants for $5 down from $8. I could afford that so I grabbed a bottle. There must have been bottles of both on special. They are the same shape and size and I got home and fed all the indoor plants without looking at the label again…. It is the sort thing that happens when a person is not functioning on all pistons. So it stinks in here.  Anyway my head is trying to burst so I have whined enough and need to lay down
