Chromefest, The Entrance

Janet had made a date with me months before and it was a coincidence that Chromefest happened to be on the day. She had not been here in months but her daughter and some

friends were going to a concert at Newcastle and Janet was coming on to see some other friends so I was being visited as well. It is always wonderful to see her but being able to share a hot rod show is beyond awesome.

She wasn’t able to get to me until after 1pm and we were rolling into the North Entrance under a big thunderstorm. There was a trickle of hot rods going the other way and I was sure we would find them all gone. Arriving at Memorial Park we saw there still plenty of people and cars about.

Janet loves the later cars like the Thunderbird and Camaro while I go for the older Ford Roadsters and 56 Chev, the Belair and the actual rods. We managed to see and photograph the cars still in the park but as we started to head back around there was word of a big hail storm rolling in and as the rain pounded down each car I started to photograph would move off as I focused the camera. It made me dizzy watching the screen suddenly empty.

I had hopes of getting stories I could add to Windjilla.com or blog but everyone had been edgy from the first storm and it took me too long to get my head into a place I needed to be to be. I was really disappointed by that part of the day. I have not had a good chat about cars for a very long time and I wanted to photograph lots of little details.

We had lunch at Kebab King at The Entrance and it was great to spend some time with Janet again. It was still pretty exciting to among all those awesome machines. Maybe they will do it again next year

The next few days were pretty tough and sleep patterns were screwed for much of the week but it’s a price worth paying to see machines like that from all over the country
