Notes

Number one

Good grief, those who didn’t live in fear in the 1960 missile crisis have forgotten or never saw what it was like. Children were taught to hide from nuclear blasts under desks and women would break down and cry in the streets. I am talking about in America. I was there.

During the French Nuclear tests in the Pacific woman’s breast milk in Australia showed increases in radiation and much of the current wave of cancer throughout that part of the world may come from those tests but as everyone is thinking positive and nuclear is worth money those conclusions are heavily weighted towards not being made at all.

While Micheal waits for the drama queen effect of having his testicles shrivel and some unknown cancer hack at his bones a future is being written that may create a world of cell-mutation and cruel disease for the children some of us claim to care about.

Talk about the bovine mentality! I wish those of you who think this is ok would go and live right next to that reactor as the rest of us have to live in the mess your inability to visualise the outcomes of this and the next disaster will cost us

Sheeple sheeple sheeple is it! Well the sheeple let this happen and are determined to sit on their hands while it continues. I dont want to live in the world you are allowing
For those who have not figured it out yet. Clouds from Japan will and the radiation will float around the world. Fish from Japan will be eaten here. Do any of the knuckle draggers who think this is not a problem actually think that this is the last 9.0 OR WORSE earthquake that will affect anywhere.

Bob Atkins is my favorite in this thread. It is absolutely bloody wonderful that a whole country will not be destroyed by radiation but merely that parts of it’s population will live in fear and reality of terrible diseases. Do you know that milk in some of the areas hundreds of miles from Chernobyl can only be used after it is powdered and run through processes.

I agree about not panicking though. Sit back and enjoy the ride with me and the rest of us who are stuck in a declining world because all the assholes we share the world don’t have the braincells to see the danger or are too bovine too care

Number 2

Bob, all these assumptions you have made, like the assumptions made when these power stations were built are incorrect. Only some of us are living longer, western, middle class by and large. Many others, including working class in this country often die brutal deaths from disease brought on by that same radiation or work place pollutants or local toxins. Right now I live in a place where black lung syndrome kills kiddies making this the site among the worst lung disease outbreaks in Australia. Including he asbestos mines If you think that is a fair price you should be living here.

You do what many people do when their race to have whatever they want is questioned. They throw off a bunch of fear mongering of their own. I am not making any assumptions about you my friend, you have put yourself amply in the bulls eye.
I am a military brat so I was also living alongside those targets and not getting paid to do so!
Your assumption that I am a greeny who rides a bike to work and wants us all living in caves is delightfully quaint, something from the class wars of the seventies and eighties.
Actually I am a highly educated artist who has spent years checking that the things I worry about were relevant and even how relevant.

That is the new wave of the twenty first century, We have the information at the fingertips and are able to see that better choices could be made and we don’t have to repeat the mistakes of mercury, PCB and DDT in our food sources. We don’t have to add another cane toad type disaster and we know that the number of people currently on the planet is causing the systems we live with to decay. Educated, not just greedy or defensive or needy.
We will relive those disasters in some way though, and you and people like you will be leading the charge into the mists of denial about your part in it

(I know I should include the whole thread but my heart is playing up and I am taking it easy by not doing any more than I have to)

Ok, I mostly agree with you. Yuk to Prius as well. I just fell in love with the 1956 Chev big block American Hot Rods, made on TV. That’s my ideal car right there. And I don’t have a recycling bin. I can explain all that and will put a link to my blog if anybody wants to beat me up over my anti recycling stance.

The problem with radiation is on several levels, one of which actually is shown by your asking me to show another similar outbreak. It doesn’t matter.
A lot of people are soothed by the fact that this is nothing like Chernobyl. Irrelevant

I was up late last night with a friend who is wracked by filthy illnesses which may be the result of the radiation in coal and thus in the plumes from the nearby power stations and coal stations. They pump it into the lagoons and the lagoons don’t flush so it builds up. Lots of people are sick in the way he is.
The local doctors will tell you the government deems the background radiation here, although very high, to be safe. A scientist would tell you the government does not know and has just made that call to prevent uncomfortable debate.

Radiation is relentless and invisible! The men who stood in front of the British nuclear test blasts died horribly overall but are still largely denied compensation because the effects are long term and difficult to assess.
I like America as well, I love Harleys and hot rods and Levis and Coca Cola, all that! But you cannot escape that some hell holes are hell holes because of their connection with US Industry and World Bank. The only reason we don’t have the old dirty reactors is because thousands of people fought to prevent them being used. Not because their American builders were good people.

People in Iraq are starting to die from diseases caused by the depleted plutonium the Apaches used in their canons. I wonder what you consider a disaster

Anyway, I can actually go on all day about this and provide example after example on sorts of levels from radiation to chemical to regions that died so Americans could waste great wads of resources without guilt
