Purple Patch among Flowers.

Patch is the name of my mother’s little dog

Purple Patch among Flowers

Purple Patch among Flowers

There are three canvasses making up this idea. The largest, The middle one, is 61cms x 51cms while the others are square at 51cm.

The middle is the one shown and is a dog. I may add a small village or house and garden in a childish style under the box to give it more depth but it will depend on the effectiveness of the two end canvasses. They will be flowers created in the same style as the main image. The dog Patch who is purple will be among flowers when they are all hung together hence the name

The painting was allowed to sit for a while as usually happens when the confusion gets too bad or I lose sight of what I want from the image.

Although a great deal of the final effect is serendipity there still has to be some intention when you point a paintbrush or splatter some paint on the surface.

The surface is impossible to see but it has been made up of deep layers of glaze so the light causes the background colors to show through as though the whole thing is crazy paving over water or as though it is colored glass. Very beautiful and something to be worked further if I get a chance

This whole style of image and finish is an experiment. I do not normally work in this style but  the initial image was drawn into the visual journal while I was doodling after designing a logo and presentation for a child care center long ago. The whole thing just seemed to want to be made so I have run with it and while nobody else may like it I find it very uplifting in a warm “little pet doggy” kind of way.

There are several possible variations on the name. “A Purple Patch appears among the Flowers” “A Purple Patch appears in the Garden” “Purple Patch between Flowers” Not to be taken too seriously this work is more like a smile or a goofy grin that dogs and kids (boys anyway) get rather than an attempt at art history or deep intellectual upwellings.

I worked back into the paint after the photo was taken and realized that the under painting was not right. It is probably better to work another painting over this one.

The two side canvasses have not been worked into and I will am still looking forward to painting flowers onto that surface and working back a little in the middle where the colors are closer to what the series was supposed to be like.

Another canvas has been started to try and take advantage of the lessons from working on this set before my shaky old brain just forgets them. The whole thing is photographed and written up in a visual diary.

There is no point trying to replace the middle image of the set as they need to be all painted at the same time. The new one will be a move away from natural colors in the cave painting series rather than another attempt to do a “Patch” painting. The dog design is great but I need to be a little smarter about the way I use it.

It was a bad day and I am still as sick as a dog. Huge effort to handle paintings and journal everything when I feel this crap. Most of tomorrow will be spent in bed. I often imagine that a cuppa in bed would be nice when things are tough. Nobody else here though!
