Kill all Cats

stranglethecatOver the last half century or so humans in Australia have learned a lot about the world we share with all sorts of other life. In among the body of knowledge that grows from those efforts is a place where cats reside.

Nobody was surprised to learn cats are evil little mass murderers of wildlife.

Possession of a cat in this age is a good sign that a person is inclined to look after themselves at whatever cost to their neighbors, friends and fellow Australians. One of my neighbors has discovered the pleasure of owning a cat recently and this morning it was happily trying to kill the birds that normally feed out of my hands on the porch and along the driveway.

I don’t know why cat owners think they are more worthy than their neighbors but they do.

There was a story a few years back about a python that ate someone’s cat. There was shock and horror and the cat owner demanded compensation andwanted the snake to be killed.

Cats kill other animals with great joy and regularity. Why would anyone care if one got eaten? It seems appropriate that cats get killed by anything able to catch them as the cats will do to any small things they can catch. Is that not fair> My neighbor’s cat is in my yard killing native birds and lizards that I attract and welcome there. It is not a small thing like chewing a hole in my shoe. It has taken years to build the trust of these birds and generations of them have come here before they trusted me as they do. Now some arsehole thinks it is okay to impose their ignorance on me and cost me all that time effort and those lives

Every neighborhood has people who love the wild things that make a home in their garden and around the place. Bird friendly gardens, blue-tongues and water dragons and possums of several sorts. Who the hell do cat owners think they are?

If the ranger catches the cat he will shrug his shoulders and say not much he can do about it. Why are cats special? Why is a selfish moron allowed to infest their surrounds with the most murderous little bastard of a beast as though there is some divine right to be insensitive and destroy our harmony.

This could get ugly because I will allow that cat no lee-way in my yard or anywhere else. I want it dead or removed before it harms one thing (as though it will not have killed a lizard or bird before I noticed) or I am going to have a very nasty time with that neighbor when I work out which one it is. Fair is fair.

Cats are not all bad, turn em inside out and they make a fine pair of gloves. There was a time when rumours suggested all the cats in the Baulkham Hills township disappeared after a restaurant of a certain nationality had been operating a few months. We ate there once. Whatever they were serving was delicious and if it was cat it was a fine way to show appreciation of such a useless but delicious little monster
